Meraki Resources & KDL Resources Management

Strategic Partnership with Meraki Resources

As Acho Dene Koe First Nation advances negotiations with the Governments of Canada and British Columbia toward an Economic Reconciliation Agreement in British Columbia, the Acho Dene Koe Group of Companies identified the need to strengthen its technical and operational capacity in forestry. To support this work, ADK Holdings Ltd. and Meraki Resources entered into a formal partnership agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) in 2024.

This agreement ensures that the First Nation and its corporate group have direct access to the full suite of Meraki’s forestry, resource management, and industrial service expertise. Through this partnership, Acho Dene Koe First Nation is positioned to participate meaningfully in emerging forestry opportunities across both British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.

Purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding

The MOU was established to:

  • Provide ADK Holdings Ltd. with access to senior forestry professionals and technical specialists
  • Support the Nation’s participation in provincial and territorial forestry negotiations
  • Strengthen Acho Dene Koe First Nation’s readiness to assume roles in forest tenure, forest management, and operational delivery
  • Build long‑term capacity within the First Nation and its corporate entities
  • Ensure Acho Dene Koe First Nation is fully equipped to advance its interests in a rapidly evolving forestry landscape

Through this partnership, Meraki Resources provides strategic guidance, operational expertise, and technical support to help the First Nation evaluate, develop, and implement forestry opportunities aligned with its long‑term economic and territorial objectives.

Access to Meraki’s Integrated Group of Companies

The MOU grants Acho Dene Koe First Nation and the Acho Dene Group of Companies access to the full capabilities of the Meraki Resources family of companies, including:

  • K & D Logging – Full‑service logging and timber harvesting operations
  • Fall River Logging – Vancouver Island–based harvesting and forestry services
  • KDL Resource Management – Professional forestry, planning, and resource management services
  • Forbidden Mechanical – Heavy equipment maintenance and mechanical services
  • Bluepoint Construction – Civil construction and infrastructure support
  • Peace Truck & Trailer – Transportation, hauling, and logistics services

Together, these companies provide a comprehensive, vertically integrated service offering that supports every stage of forestry development — from planning and permitting to harvesting, hauling, and infrastructure.

Strengthening ADKFN’s Position in Forestry

This partnership is a strategic investment in Acho Dene Koe First Nation’s long‑term economic future. By combining Meraki’s technical expertise with the Nation’s rights, knowledge, and territorial priorities, the MOU:

  • Enhances Acho Dene Koe First Nation’s ability to participate in forest tenure and management
  • Supports informed decision‑making in negotiations with British Columbia and Canada
  • Builds internal capacity for future Acho Dene Group of Companies‑led forestry operations
  • Creates pathways for employment, training, and business development
  • Positions the Nation as a credible, capable partner in regional forestry initiatives

Who We Are

For more than 50 years, Meraki Resources has built its reputation on trust, reliability, and long‑term relationships. Our history reflects a consistent commitment to working collaboratively with communities and partners to deliver high‑quality, responsible resource management and development services across Western Canada.

Today, Meraki is focused on forming strong, values‑aligned partnerships with Indigenous Nations — partnerships grounded in respect, shared decision‑making, and meaningful economic participation. We believe that sustainable development is only possible when communities are active partners in the work being done on their lands.

Our Story – A Legacy Rooted in Community

Meraki’s origins date back to 1975, when founder David Hoy established David Hoy Trucking in Fort St. James. Built on hard work, integrity, and a commitment to service, the company quickly became a trusted regional partner.

A Family‑Led Evolution and Expansion – as the business grew, it evolved into Tsayta Trucking, then K&D Logging, and later the KDL Group, guided by the next generation of the Hoy family. Each transition expanded the company’s capabilities and strengthened its ability to deliver integrated, reliable services to industry partners and communities.

Becoming Meraki Resources

By the 2010s, the company had diversified across Western Canada, including operations on Vancouver Island through Fall River Logging, and the acquisition of Bluepoint Construction and Forbidden Mechanical in 2018. In 2020, the company unified under the name Meraki Resources, reflecting a renewed commitment to authenticity, purpose, and community‑driven partnerships.

Our Commitment to Partnership – Meraki recognizes that Indigenous Nations are essential partners in the future of responsible resource development. Our approach to joint ventures and partnerships is built on:

  • Respect for Indigenous governance, rights, and decision‑making
  • Alignment with community‑defined priorities and long‑term goals
  • Transparent communication and shared accountability
  • Meaningful participation and equitable economic benefit
  • Capacity building, training, and long‑term employment pathways

We believe that strong partnerships are built through action — by showing up consistently, delivering on commitments, and ensuring that value flows back to the Nation and its members.

Grounded in Purpose – Meraki is a dependable, values‑driven partner. We bring objective, trustworthy guidance and a collaborative approach to every project, ensuring that our work supports the social, economic, and environmental well‑being of our partners.

Our purpose is to foster resilient, thriving communities through:

  • Strong, healthy, and mutually beneficial relationships
  • Shared vision and aligned priorities
  • Respectful engagement and long‑term commitment
  • Outcomes that benefit all partners — locally and regionally
