Health, Community Wellness and Social Development Office
The Health, Community Wellness and Social Development Office leads the Nation’s efforts to support the physical, mental, emotional, and social well being of citizens across all ages. It ensures care and services are accessible, coordinated, and responsive to community needs, while remaining grounded in the Nation’s values and traditions.
Core Responsibilities
- Health Programming & Services: Oversees family and community services, prevention initiatives, and partnerships with regional health authorities, federal and territorial/provincial agencies, and local providers.
- Community Wellness: Advances holistic wellness, strengthens social supports, and promotes healthy, thriving families and communities.
- Recreation & Events: Plans and delivers inclusive, culturally grounded opportunities that foster connection, support healthy lifestyles, and celebrate identity and traditions.
Programs & Activities
The office coordinates a wide range of initiatives, including:
- Recreational programs and seasonal activities
- Cultural gatherings, youth and elder events
- Community celebrations and festivals
- Sports tournaments and land‑based activities
By promoting active living, cultural participation, and social engagement, the office enhances overall community wellness and quality of life.
Partnerships & Collaboration
Working closely with local partners, schools, cultural leaders, and regional organizations, the office ensures programming reflects community priorities and is accessible to all citizens. It also:
- Oversees facility use and manages community spaces
- Supports volunteer involvement
- Leads the organization of major events
Through thoughtful planning and responsive service delivery, the office fosters a vibrant, connected, and resilient community where citizens can learn, play, celebrate, and strengthen their relationships with one another and with the land.
