Housing Services Office

The newly created Housing Services office came into existence in 2025 and will operate under the offices of Acho Dene Koe Group of Companies.

The newly established Housing Services office is positioned as a strategic driver of sustainable housing development within our First Nations community. Its mandate encompasses project development, financial assistance facilitation, educational programming, policy advocacy, and culturally aligned housing solutions. By aligning with federal and provincial housing initiatives while maintaining cultural integrity, the office enhances living conditions and strengthens community resilience. This initiative underscores our commitment to ensuring equitable access to safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing, thereby advancing both social and economic development goals.

Key functions of the Housing Services office are the following:

  • Housing Development and Management: One of the primary responsibilities of the Housing Services Office is the development and management of housing projects within the First Nation. This can include:
  • Assessment of Housing Needs: The HSO conducts surveys and assessments to understand the housing needs of the community, ensuring that new developments align with the desires and requirements of residents.
  • Planning and Construction: Working closely with contractors and community members, the HSO oversees the planning and construction of new homes, ensuring they are culturally appropriate and sustainable.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: The office also manages ongoing maintenance and repairs of existing housing stock, ensuring that homes remain safe and comfortable for residents.
  • Financial Assistance and Funding Programs: Access to financial resources is essential for building and maintaining homes.

The Housing Services Office will be providing assisting with:

  • in navigating various funding programs offered by federal, provincial, and territorial governments, as well as non-profit organizations.
  • guidance on budgeting, financial planning, and mortgage options, enabling families to make informed decisions about their housing.
  • In cases of urgent need, such as natural disasters or unexpected repairs, the HSO may provide emergency funding or facilitate access to support programs.
  • playing an educational role, helping community members gain the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their housing responsibilities effectively.
  • organizing workshops on topics such as home maintenance, energy efficiency, and financial literacy, empowering residents to take an active role in their housing situations.
  • fostering communication between community members and decision-makers, ensuring that housing policies and programs reflect the unique cultural and social context of the First Nation.
  • serving as an advocate for the housing needs of the First Nation at various levels of government.
  • representing the community’s interests in discussions with federal and provincial authorities, pushing for policies and funding that address the specific challenges faced by First Nations.
  • conducting research on housing issues and trends, the office can provide informed recommendations to leadership on effective housing strategies.
  • promoting environmentally sustainable practices, such as energy-efficient building techniques and the use of local materials, which not only reduce costs but also strengthen community ties to the land.
